PayMaya Philippines, the country’s pioneer and leader in digital financial services, is changing the game once again by enabling Filipino motorists traversing NLEX to pay their tollway fees by simply tapping their beep and Mastercard contactless debit, prepaid, and credit cards, including their Tap and Go Smart Mastercard powered by PayMaya.

PayMaya-MPTC_3.jpgMotorists can now pay their tollway fees at NLEX and soon at CAVITEX by tapping their beep and Mastercard contactless debit, prepaid and credit cards including their Tap and Go Smart Mastercard powered by PayMaya. Acceptance for CAVITEX will commence soon. Commuters will also be able to pay at MPTC toll roads with their Visa contactless debit, prepaid and credit cards this year.

This milestone for the first ever tollways system acceptance for Mastercard payments in the country was made possible by PayMaya, in collaboration with Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), the country’s largest toll road operator. PayMaya is the digital financial services arm of PLDT and Smart’s Voyager Innovations. MPTC, meanwhile, is the tollways arm of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC).

"PayMaya’s collaboration with MPTC, by enabling card payments acceptance at NLEX, and soon at CAVITEX, demonstrates the vital role of digital financial services in further moving our economy forward and improving the lives of Filipinos.”

Manuel  V. Pangilinan,
Chairman of MPIC, PLDT, Smart, and Voyager Innovations.

“At PayMaya, we strive to create a long-lasting impact in emerging markets by bringing  digital financial services to all. We hope that this collaboration with MPTC will further enhance the customer experience of motorists and consumers who rely on NLEX and CAVITEX for their day-to-day travel,” said Orlando B. Vea, President and CEO of PayMaya Philippines and Voyager Innovations.

“We continue to be ahead of the demands of our motorists in terms of providing an excellent customer service in line with the digital age. Partnering with PayMaya and making its technology accessible in NLEX and CAVITEX enable interoperability between toll roads, matching the expectations of road users when it comes to convenience, efficiency, and time savings,” said Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation President and CEO Rodrigo Franco.

Mastercard contactless payment acceptance for CAVITEX will commence soon. Consumers will also be able to pay at MPTC toll roads with their Visa contactless debit, prepaid, and credit cards this year. This initiative was made possible by PayMaya Business solutions, which enable companies and merchants to accept all types of card and online payments.

PayMaya sees this development in integrating payment innovations in transportation and tollways ecosystems as a leap forward  in accelerating cash-lite transactions in the country and in helping bridge the digital divide for financial inclusion. This supports the
National Retail Payment System (NRPS) framework led by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), which envisions at least 20% of the country’s financial transactions to be made through electronic payments by 2020.

PayMaya allows enterprises to accept beep, Mastercard, Visa and soon, JCB card payments. PayMaya also gives consumers a mobile app with a virtual prepaid MasterCard or Visa that they can immediately use to shop and pay online, and a physical prepaid card for face-to-face store purchases.

Users of PayMaya-issued physical cards, such as the Tap and Go Smart Mastercard and PayMaya Visa, can upgrade their accounts to facilitate ATM withdrawals in any Bancnet partner bank. PayMaya accounts can be topped up at over 15,000 touchpoints nationwide, including Petron Stations along NLEX and Ministop with Touchpay Kiosks, UnionBank ATMs, Smart Padala centers, 7-Eleven with Cliqq Kiosks, BDO online banking, SM Malls Business Centers, and Robinsons Department Stores.
